On behalf of the School Board, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Brian Rausch as a new director to the school board.  Brian was a candidate during the fall 2019 election.   In addition to going through the ballot nomination process, he participated in the candidate forum with the other three candidates.  Brian’s appointment will continue until the next school election which is currently scheduled for November 2021.  At that time he can run on the ballot to continue serving on the school board.

We extend our congratulations to Brian Rausch and thank him for his future service to Norwalk Schools.

Kate Baldwin
Board Secretary

Below is a candidate profile Brian submitted to the School Board for consideration.

Tell us about yourself, your family, occupation and educational background.
I grew up on a farm in northeast Iowa, the oldest of 6 siblings. I learned a lot about hard work and dedication from my parents and took that with me when I attended Iowa State University for mechanical engineering. At Iowa State, I met my wife Alex, and we have been married 11 years and have two daughters, Molly (6) and Jane (2).

I have been a mechanical engineer since graduating in 2007, and I earned my Professional Engineering license in 2012. I am currently the Engineering Manager at The Waldinger Corporation in Des Moines.

How long have you lived in the Norwalk Community School District?
2 years.

What excites you most about the school and/or community?
Our daughters’ education is very important to my wife and me. Prior to moving to NCSD, we lived in Johnston for 7 years. We have kept a close eye on Norwalk (and other communities) and we have watched it grow into a place where we knew we wanted to live. From what we have been able to see, the school district has wonderful teachers and staff, and the community is providing great opportunities for growth and improvement.

Why do you want to serve on the School Board?
I want to provide the best possible education to my daughters, as well as help to improve the community of Norwalk. I want to offer my help and perspective on the NCSD and its direction moving forward. One thing I can provide to the Board is my knowledge and many years of navigating construction and development proposals.

Do you have any specific goals for the District? If so, what are they?
I want to learn what I can, provide input and knowledge as warranted, and help continue the great momentum and direction that the current board has been able to provide.

Are there any specific changes you would like to see made within the school district? If so, what are they?
I am very pleased with what the current board has been able to accomplish. I hope to be one small piece of the team to help continue moving the school district in the right direction.
