Dear Students and Parents,

We know that Prom is a major event in the lives of our students, and we want to do everything we can to preserve the tradition that it is while maintaining the health and safety of the public.  Prom is planned for Saturday, May 1st at 7:30 pm at the Science Center in Des Moines with the following precautions to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.  This space was reserved and paid for last year and the Science Center was willing to hold our reservation when it went unused.  The Science Center is limiting capacity to 50% (400 people total will be allowed into the Science Center) and requiring all inside to wear masks.

To meet the capacity limitations, Norwalk High School juniors and seniors will be the only students allowed to attend Prom.  No students from other grades and no guests from outside of Norwalk High School will be allowed.  All attending Prom will be required to wear masks throughout the event.  We will provide bottles of water, but no food will be served.

While Norwalk High School does not sponsor the After Prom event, we do try to communicate information with students and parents.  No After Prom is being held at this time for students because of limitations on space and activities due to COVID-19.

This has been a difficult year full of challenges that none of us have wanted for our students.  We hope that the conditions above will allow us to create a safe and enjoyable night for our students.

PROM+ 2021

An all-night After Prom event is just not possible this year so the Prom and After Prom committees have come up with a creative way to incorporate some of the fun of After Prom into the evening and are calling it Prom +.

This year, Prom+  will be open to Norwalk juniors and seniors only on May 1, 2021, at the Science Center of Iowa from 7:30-11:15 PM. The theme is Night Under the Stars and tickets are $30. Students can purchase them from Mr. Wermerskirchen.  Masks will be required the entire evening.

Students will enjoy a beautifully-decorated Prom with dancing and the crowning of their king and queen, AND there will also be additional activities built into the evening this year. Games and activities that can be enjoyed while wearing prom attire will be available and LOTS of fun prizes will be given away throughout the evening.  After the dance, the students will enjoy the always-popular hypnotist show and everyone in attendance will leave with fun swag bags (including snacks – they’ll be hungry by then!).

Prizes and monetary donations are needed to cover the cost of the PLUS portion of this event and volunteers are also needed to work the event. For more information, please contact  NorwalkAfterProm@gmail.com or SWermerskirchen@norwalk.k12.ia.us
