Emergency Meal Service for Children under 18 years of Age

The next weekly meal pick up day will be Monday, June 1.

This service is only offered once a week on the following Mondays: June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29

Meals can be picked up at either Lakewood Elem. or Norwalk City Park from 11:30-12:30 While Supplies Last.

Families can pick up meals from either Lakewood parking lot (look for the school bus) or at Norwalk City Park (look for the white Nutrition truck). No identification or registration is required. A bag containing lunches and breakfast meals for 5 days (if possible) will be provided for each child in the vehicle/walking group. Children DO NOT have to be present in order for meals to be provided. You may not get meals from both sites in Norwalk due to USDA regulations.

(This is a new process for the Nutrition Department so please know the first distribution may be extended to another day of the week so that we can meet demand. Our mission is to be a resource to those children in need.) If you miss the opportunity in Norwalk, please know there are other opportunities at schools across the Metro Area who can provide assistance even if you live outside of that school district. West Des Moines is a good example of another participating district. You may check their website for service times and locations.

Drive or walk to meal site nearest your address. Be patient. Be respectful of Social Distancing. Be a WARRIOR!

Follow the signs to drive through or walk up to pick up your meals.

If driving: Please stay in your car and meals will be brought to you. Please open your trunk lid when possible to prevent face to face contact. PLEASE watch for pedestrians and please be patient. We will alternate between vehicle and pedestrian lines to avoid as much confusion as possible.

If walking: Please stay at least six feet from other customers and staff distributing the meals. Your meals will be placed in a designated area. Please only touch the meal bags provided to you. Avoid contact with the Nutrition Staff member who will be wearing gloves. I would encourage each child to bring an empty backpack to ease with carrying the meals home.

This program is for pick-up only, and absolutely no congregating will be allowed. Meals will not be allowed to be consumed on-site. Please continue to practice the recommended preventative steps to remain healthy. Please wash any fresh produce again before consuming as an added precaution.
