  • 37+ years in the Air National Guard, serving as mission commander in Italy, England and the United States and accumulating 7,000 hours of flying time in 13 military aircraft, which was twice the average at the time
  • Coordinated visits for and welcomed Pope John Paul, Presidents Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan and President Tito of Yugoslavia as the Department of Defense Representative for Iowa
  • Helped establish the Norwalk Little League Softball program
