Hello Warrior Families,

Norwalk CSD staff members are working hard to create a Return to Learn Plan (RTL) Draft for the 2020-2021 school year.  Please note that the recommendations that will be sent out in the RTL Plan Draft are fluid and subject to change based on current information and guidance related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Below are some important updates regarding the District’s ongoing RTL planning:

  • The NCSD Administrative Team met on June 25 and 26 for the team’s annual retreat.  RTL planning was the main focus of the retreat and the team made key decisions about the plan.
  • Each building has created a RTL implementation team.  These building teams have been working and will continue to work on implementation planning throughout the summer.
  • A RTL Parent Advisory Committee has been created and members of that committee are currently reviewing and providing feedback about the draft plan.
  • The NCSD will be working closely with Warren County Health Services, the Iowa Department of Education (DE), the Iowa Department of Public Health, Governor Reynolds and other Iowa school districts during this RTL planning process.
  • The District’s RTL application, which was due July 1, has been submitted to the DE.
  • The NCSD Board of Directors will review the RTL Plan Draft at the July 13 regular board meeting.
  • The meeting agenda for the July 13 board meeting will be uploaded to the School Board Meeting Agendas webpage (https://www.norwalkschools.org/district/school-board/school-board-meeting-agendas/) on or before Friday, July 10.  The meeting agenda will include a link to the RTL Plan Draft.
  • The RTL Plan Draft will have an embedded link to a survey where interested individuals may provide feedback about the plan.
  • I will be hosting a virtual town hall meeting on Wednesday, July 22 to discuss the RTL plan draft.  Additional information will be sent out prior to the town hall meeting and the meeting will be recorded for later viewing.
  • A RTL Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document is being developed and will be sent out soon.

Thank you all for your ongoing support, patience, and understanding as we navigate through the complexities of RTL planning. We will get through this together.

Stay safe and Warrior Strong!

Yours in service,
D.T. Magee, Superintendent
